What filters for my IDA

Post by Blobber »

Hi

What filters are the best for my 48IDA?

I am useing the engine for steet. But I don´t what brand/type of filters that will be the best.
So far I have only found K&N and Ramflo.

I have two types of stacks. The original stacks and some who are wider, about 98mm outside at the top. But are there any filters that will fit wide stacks? I think the stacks are called "Pro-Stacks", but I am not sure.

Aircooled.net sells several excellent Uni-filter FOAM stack filters at a good price for Kads/IDFs/IDAs.

You will have to ask John about the specific sizes, he sells Uni, and they make filters to fit most anything.

Uni-filters are highly efficient air filters, as good or better as a filter than even synthetic media elements in some online tests. Gauze filters basically keep out rocks.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Thank you for the info.

What do you mean by Gauze Filter? Is that filter like mesh-filter?

Yes I don´t think the mesh filters would be a good solution for my street engine.

K&N or clones are gauze. they flow well, (but so does foam or synthetic media) but some testing years ago showed that you should expect ~50% more ring and somewhat more bearing wear due to ingested silica with gauze. (aka dust)

Thanks a lot for that information.

I think the filter is gonna be some foam-style filter then.
I hope to be able to install the engine in the weekend, so that I can measure how much space i got for the filters.

John even has shorties for Ghia installs.

I ran some old SCAT fixtures in my Baywindow for a year with UNI-foam sheets from a motorcycle shop and spray on oil...For the Beetles I bought the A.C.E. K&N stack aircleaners - for modified-stock stacks...I haven't used them yet, but they're pretty.
