2056 type 4 in beetle camshaft selection
Hello. I am new the STF. I have been on the samba and getting great help. Just not a lot of people who know about type 4 are on there. So i bring my questions here I'm putting a 2056 type 4 engine into my 73 super beetle. I am getting 2 litre 42x36 HAM heads from Len Hoffman. He asked what camshaft I would be using so he could properly shim the valve springs based on the lift. I want to use a raby cam kit from the type 4 store but I am unsure of which to use. So I ask, what camshaft would be best for me. Its a street car that I will occasionally use for possibly some autocross. It has 195/45/r15 tyres and Im going to use the stock vw transmisssion or possibly upgrade to a 901 transmission in the future. Thanks in Advance, Max

Camshaft is always the very last thing you select.
Figure out every single other component you will be running with your motor first,
Then ask again.

I have a list of everything i plan on using. Len said the heads should be done within 6 to 8 weeks so i need to let him know the cam lift so he can shim the valve springs

Best thing would be to get in contact with Jake Raby and get this advise , as far as I know Jake doesn't advertise cam specifications so it makes it hard to get advise from anybody else .

Maybe. Only thing is I’ve heard great things about these raby cam kits. They also come with the lifters. Cam gear. Pushrods. 911 adjusters. Everything I’m going to buy all put together in one kit you know? But if raby or the type 4 store doesn’t reply I guess I’d have to go with a webcam
