Hello everyone! My names Dave and i own a small VW, Audi and Porsche repair shop in northern Ohio. My current project is a 1971 panel bus which is going to have air ride with bags at all four corners. I just finished up replacing nearly the entire lower 10" of the bus before i could start in on the suspension and then later, paint. I raised the entire engine and transmission up 5" to make sure it clears the ground when the bags air out. All custom built. Back in october i bought one of Jake's DTM shrouds. The power plant for my bus will be a forced induction t4 2.0L mated to the 6rib 091 trans. Both of which i have picked up. The engine will be the last thing I do. I believe ive gathered enough information on here to support a nice and powerful build. 200whp is a rough goal at the moment. This site if freaking awesome! Glad to join!

Hi all,

I'm Tom from the Netherlands. Started last week with the restauration of a 914 with 1.7.
Done some Chevy&Ford block restaurations and quite a lot of Land Rover V8 restaurations, this will be my first Porsche/VW project. Looking forward to it, and I will dive in the archive for some easy 1.7 updates (1911, 2056 or 2270)...

Thanks,
Tom

Hi everybody, I'm Zack.
I've got a '69 Bug, slowly going through it, chasing previous owner hacks down and trying to fix them. I'm convinced a Type 4 engine is the way to go... I just want a solid, reliable daily driver engine that can keep up with (and pass once in awhile) traffic, without the headaches of a highly strung type 1 engine.
Even my stock 1600 has been a headache since the day I bought it. I'm ready to throw it out and start with an all new engine.
That said, I am completely new to this. I've been into VWs my whole life, but I've never even touched a type 4 engine.
I intend to search and start collecting information on how to do this, but any further advice would be welcomed.

I hope to be a contributing member, and I look forward to hearing from you guys as I work through my build.

Now... where can I snag an engine? ;)

Hi,
Been on here a while but never introduced myself!

I'm Seumas, from Scotland, 19 years old.
Got my 1968 beetle when I was 16 and fully restored it. Recently bought a 2.0 type 4 to go in it.
Definitely a steep learning curve!

Cheers

Hi,
Alan from Denver, CO and bought Sunny, my first VW Westfalia, last fall and this is my first post. Sunny is a 1972 bus in which the PO installed with a 1978 2.0L Type 4 engine...PO also took out her fuel injection system and left me with a Weber 32/36 DFAV. Not to fear, I'm replacing the single carb with a dual carb Weber 40mm IDF in a few weeks.

However, there are awful gas fumes smell in my garage every morning and trying to hook up the fuel breather system (note: not the oil breather). I have the charcoal canister and have fuel breather connected in the obvious spot...can anyone tell me if this is the fan shroud nipple that should be connected to my charcoal canister? It feels like it is pushing air out when the engine is running and would then make sense that it used to push air through the canister. The reason why I'm asking is because I thought that this type of FI engine was never supposed to be used the same with as with the charcoal canister.

Thanks everyone!

Hello everyone,
I am a life long ACVW fan and just this year came across my first few projects. My daughter and I are rebuilding a 1968 Type 1 1500cc for her first car. However the wife and I are excited about our '65 Manx type and that is my purpose here. A few weeks ago I bought 1980 2.0L type 4 takeout with a 6 rib. I plan to install the engine only for the time being. The engine is complete minus some electrical harness components for the L-Jet. Thank you guys for the years of knowledge I have been able to find so far. I look forward to asking lots of questions.
Cheers,
Jonathan

Hello Everyone,

I'm living in Arlington, VA/USA. I've had multiple ACVWs, all Bugs. The latest is a survivor '72 Super, mostly still original. I'm looking to upgrade the engine to get a bit more power and go a faster on the top end as well. Was thinking of rebuilding a 1600dp then started reading about converting a T4 to upright instead and have decided to go that route. Found a complete T4 long block locally that turns and appears to have compression, for $100 US!! Couldn't walk away. So i've got my Fall project...I'll start posting when I begin the work.

Hello All,
I have known about ACVWs for some years, but just was not 'into' them until a few months ago. After much research, I've decided the Type IV motor is best value/$/Horsepower in my opinion. Currently looking for a SB platform to do the German Look (see example). I have selected my tuner shop for the motor, and will be tearing up the streets in 2015; in the Hampton Roads,Va. area !
V.
Oh yeah,
Glad to be on board! 8)

Hello all,
My name is Chuck and I live in Mid TN. Mid 40's guy with a family and a love for old iron. I have a 72 Super that is currently running fine with a 1600 DP and its about 70% of where I want it to be. I have plans on doing a type IV conversion and pursuing the GL to my beetle. I have had a few beetles in the past when I was stationed in the military in WA. I love old Harleys and of course anything that burns fuel rapidly! I look forward to reading all the info that I can on this site and completing the TIV conversion.
