Hello, new to STF, been playing with VW's in one form or another since 1999.
Found STF looking for info on Fuel Injecting an air cooled engine. I think I'm ready to step into that world.
The VW's I currently have...

Hey
I've been lurking hear for quite awhile reading posts and finding out interesting info about the cars we love. I've been playing with aircooled vdubs since I was 15 started with railbuggies, I'm just over 30 now. Bought my first aircooled 1956 oval off of my stepfather and restored it when I was 19, it is a Canadian car, needed heater channels, floor pans, aprons, upholstery(lucky it was a "Canadian Standard" just headliner and wheelwell carpet), put it on a 68 irs chassis(56 chassis was stolen), paint body work everything done by myself(12 years later paint is still sticking haha who woulda thought ;-) ). Started out with dual carbs and have since dumped those for a newer 2.9 motronic oem vw injection system as well have added a turbo, currently it all fits under the stock apron and hood. Still have the car and drive/try new things on it, currently I would like to install some different rims but having a hard time finding a shop that can drill a custom bolt pattern in the drums/rotors. I'm in southern Ontario close to Toronto, not sure where to post on here but if anybody know of where I can take the drums/rotors to be drilled at a competent shop I would be greatly appreciated?? There was a guy here that did it, but it seems he has moved to the other side of the country. Anyways if anyone could dirrect me to where I could find that info would be great! I'll just say thanks for the years of great info that is available here, as well as the vast ocean of knowledge, I'll say it's come in handy.

Welcome! A very cool buggy for sure.

Around the "states" you would find that a "glass bodied buggy" (not including "kit Cars" which are a bit different in concept) has several names. On the left coast you might hear used; "Manx" or "dune buggy" then as you move to the center of the country a "tub buggy" might be heard. On the right coast and off-shore then "beach buggy" is more commonly used but they all mean the same thing... fun!

We always called them 'Glassers' -- cause they were made out of fiberglass

Missed this thread when i joined, been hanging out in the conversion perversions area.
My name is Joel, I'm from Dallas, TX and i have a 69 standard bug that is getting an EJ18. Traded into the bug and never could get it running right(it also lost more oil than it kept) so instead of building another aircooled i thought i'd give the swap a shot.

Welcome to STF Joelzy. I wouldn't worry about the leaking as VWs always mark their spots. Besideds, being a Texas guy you are just returing some of the native liquid to the ground for future residents to use.

Nice looking buggy too.

Hahahaha thanks fogasaurus
I didnt mind a small leak but when i did everything short of splitting the block and i was still losing a ton of oil with every drive i decided it was time to move on. It was also missing a lot of tins and never ran all that great so ditching the motor didnt take a ton of motivation.
