Hi all! I'm glad to have found this forum a wealth of knowledge here and not to mention a tad bit friendlier than the samba crowd.. lol, well here's my story I'm located in davie Florida and finally picked up my first beetle.. I've been after my own beetle for a little more than 10 years if it wasn't space it was time if it wasn't time it was money that kept me away from buying one.. the reason why it was a beetle for me I remember driving down the highway with my dad and saw these two slammed bugs chasing each other down going at least 70mph+ with there motors exposed I said wow! That was amazing my dad says they were fitting Porsche engines in them I was sold the beetle would be mine one day..

So here we are a friend of a friend has a beetle with a locked up engine. Since the motor was locked I could afford it lol! Well I said I was going to buy it do everything myself learn everything vw along the way.. well here comes the world of hurt it's a 1969 autostick since the motor was locked up it took me and my "learning" 6 hours to remove the engine lol there a vw record lol finally got into the house took the torque converter off and it came right out..

Next thing was I had to convert it to 4 speed manual to get rid of this horrible autostick just looking at it there's too many things that could go wrong.. well I found out that I do not have a clutch tube in my tunnel, that's something I'm gonna leave to my new friend Bruce at McNair foreign cars.. he's taught me a lot and let me have at one of his donor cars to get all my transmission parts pedals etc..

I'm on my way and have a ton of questions and need a lot of guidance but I'm trying to learn about everything beetle and do it all myself no matter how many tries I hope I haven't bit off more than I can chew but I also weighed my options and decided to go with an ej22 swap my harness is on its way to Jeff at autoventures llc I will attach a bunch of pics

Hey there and welcome. Thanks for sharing your story. We'd be glad to look at some pictures of your beetle, if possible!
