Airflow diagram

Post by Ol'fogasaurus »

The other day a short conversation about airflow came up. The top of the VW is somewhat like a wing but there is not the smooth trailing off like a wing has so there is some "curling" or back flow.

This shows the air flow around a square (I think they were talking about a building) but the tailing off the back of a car is going to have some of the same effects as shown. Station wagons have this problem as to trucks. The other day Clonebug was talking about using "tails" and videoing their patterns when talking about flowing air at the back of his buggy. This is what I think he was getting. If you do a search on airflow around a wing or airflow around a square you will get some interesting results including what happens in a tube.

For what it is worth.
