‘67 bug transmission replacement

Post by Pete65 »

Hi All,

It’s been about 10 years since my last post. I’m very happy to see the site is still running strong with a lot of the same names. Well done!

It’s been about 15 years since I last replaced a transmission, and I will be doing it again in a few weeks. I read Doc’s post on the same, but miss the pictures. Any recommendations for parts to buy / things to check / replace while I’m in there?

I do remember the axle boots and the difficult circlips. Any other watch-its? Much appreciated.

When a transmission stops working, the most likely cause is most often deep inside the component, and sometimes the most cost effective way to handle the issue is to replace it. But removing and replacing a transmission is tricky. If you are looking for a great source why not to search on google for some good info. thanks!

I would personally put in new black polyurethane mounts, new shift rod linkage(wouldn't hurt to replace the shift rod bushing under the shifter while its apart)
