Compression disparity

Post by russazbuggy »

Hi All,

I have a newly built stock 1600dp in my 66 dune buggy. It runs 120psi across all four cylinders. The motor I pulled out ran 175 across 1-3 with a dead #4. What would cause this disparity? I do not know the history of the motor I pulled out.

Any information is appreciated, thanks.

Are you wondering why you have a dead number 4 or 120 on all 4 cyl vs 170 on the other motor

A dead cylinder usually means the rings have completely gone or one of the valves (usually exhaust) was leaking.

The 175 on the other cylinders was quite high for a 1600 engine so it might have had modified heads on it.

Your 120 on all 4 cylinders is closer to normal ( might improve a bit once it has a few miles/km on it), but the main thing is that they are all the same.
