My VW 612 RS
I though I could have a tread about my project if someone want to have i look.
It´s a nice dark blue VW 412 -74. This car is rebuilt with Porsche 911 engine (3.0) and gearbox (930), Porsche dash, electric memory leather seats, adjustable struts, 911 brakes, 9 and 10 x 17 Rüf wheels. The car is not finished yet. But the project has slowly started again. I bought this car for 8 years ago. The car was started to rebuilt back in -84 so it has been on the road for only 10 years. The next step is to convert the engine to twin turbo. The plan for the car is a daily drive car but it´s built for some fast rounds at the tracks. The car is still waiting for his new garage so the car i stored some place else.
The 412 with Porsche 911 engine have been a dream for many years. The car was ready for 911 engine and transmission and it was restored with new paint when I bought it. The plan was just, put in a engine and put everything together and drive. But this story wanted a another ending I used some wheels from one of my fathers Porsche´s. Then I did´t have to do something with the fenders. I really wanted Ruf (8x17) wheels, but they are really hard to get. But some day I heard from a friend who has a 911 that one of his friend should sell a set of Ruf wheels. I hoped they where 4 pieces of 8x17. But no. It was 9 and 10x17. OK, those wheels are going to fit the car.
What do i do. Yes, from now one this project took off as a jetplane. I decided to make a little Porsche killer out of a 412. So that´s why the Porsche bumper and so one......
I was thinking about the name at the rear decklid. 412 3.0 maybe? Now, it was to boring. This car have got a new name. VW 612 RS was born. Volkswagen type 6. When it´s finish I hope it will looks like it was made like this from the factory.
Today I have finished the sway bar mountings. The orginal mountings is to week so I fabricated a set of new brackets for the new 25mm sway bar. Next step is to make some for the rear axle also.
Her is some pictures.

Oh yeah, gorgeous car, I've loved it since I first saw the pics a while back. One of the best custom Type 4's on the planet.

It doesn't get cooler than that! Cannot wait to see the performance figures. Another reason to visit Norway!
Good luck with the project

Re: My VW 612 RS
The struts for the front is from Kercher (VW 1302/3, 71-73) where I have did some modification in the bottom so they fit the 412. The weight in front of this car is not so far away from a 1302/3.Bill K. wrote:Killer 412! Thanks for posting! Please tell us more about the struts and brakes.

In the rear is mounted stronger springs. I´m thinking about to put on coilovers later from Porsche 993.
The brakes is from the same model who the engine is taken from. 911 80-82. This is much easier to get it approved with brakes who belongs to this engine. I will put on bigger brakes later.
In the front I have moved the hole a little bit so the 911 brakes fits.
In the back it´s made a special bracket for the brakes and the emergency brakepads
I can take picture of the bracket later

Re: My VW 612 RS
Hans,
Nice work.
Did you cut the Kerscher tubes and welded them to 412 tubes? They look longer than 1302 tubes. Plus the 1302 ball joint mount is different...
What springs did you find to fit the rear?
When you get a chance, I'd like to see how the rear vented disks were mounted.
Cheers,
Bill

Hi Bill!
I welded on around 120mm in the bottom of the Kerscher tubes. 1302/3 tubes and 411/12 tubes have same dimensions and I made a new triangel who´s like the type 4. I use the type 4 balljoint.
The rear spring is made by a spring company who fabricate springs and sway bars. The new spring is 2mm thicker.
Here is a old picture of the rear brakes with rusted bolts, Urgh!!!!
And before the emergency wire is mounted, but you se the bracket I was talking about

But I will take a picture from behind where you see the caliper mounted
I will try to tell you what´s done.
I don´t know the word in English but the axel in front where the bearing is mounted, I have made spacer rings (2-3 mm) for the bearings because the vw "axel" is thinner than Porsche´s bearings.
And I have moved the hole for the brakes so they fit the SC brake calipers. But I think you can use old 944 caliper.
I think they fit 1303 and 411/412 is the same as 1303
