Post by vdubinluvin »

I'm going to start the redue on my 74 412 and need to figure out what to do with the window rubber. I know you can use bus rubber for the front and rear glass but what about the quater rubber? I want to retain the molding also any hints? Ray?

I talked to my glass guy and he said he could get me something, have you tried a glass shop?

Sorry for the delay in answering. By next month i will have my car back in my hands and out of storage. there is a very simple method i cooked up to reliably use type 1 or early bus rubber to replace type 4 rubber. It requires making an adaptor/gripper/spacer insert that goes against the vertical side of the ledge or channel. If you look at all the seals in cross section, thpough the dimesnions vary they are enough the same shape that they can work if cany major gaps are filled. The most glaring major gap between type 1 and type 4 rubber is where the little flexible ribs are that squash against the vertical sideo fthe channel. the type 1 rubber is not as deep here.

What I will use is ribbed industrial V-belt rubber that has been poprivted and sealed against the vertical wall of the channel. I have several rubber suppliers that will sell varying widths by the foot. Nore to come. Ray
