sandy our 71 ghia

Post by 69satellite »

Picked this up on Aug 31, traded for it. Its a little rough round the edges. But it does run and stop. Didn't take a pic of the inside before we tore it down. But heres some shots of it. Had this over on the samba. Didn't even notice there was a ghia section on here till yesterday.

Pans are rough

Hit the back with a wire brush. It was mostly just surface rust. I had some eastwood rust paint so we painted it with that.

And need to get a seal for the engine

Heres got a rough cut out of the floor. will make the clean cut tomorrow and hopefully start on the pattern.

Hi 69satellite,

You're showing us some really tender loving care for Sandy. Please keep us updated on your restoration progress.

I love to see these rescues.

Took a few quick shoots of it, now that its mostly together. Engine lid is just sitting on there, I couldn't find the bolts at the time. And got some taillight lens on the way.

Forgot I even had posted this here. I'm hoping going to get back to work on it. She's been sitting almost a year now. We moved down to texas and bought a house that needed a lot of love and that's where all my time and money has been going. I posted over in the conversion section about how I want to go transverse tdi.

Welcome to Texas!

I love the idea, I keep praying some idiot with insurance will (gently, but enough) rear end my Mk4 jetta TDi so I can swap the motor/trans into my Cabriolet, along with a GT22V.

Sandy looks to be in pretty decent shape after the work you did, be a shame considering it would end up with a rear subframe/rear all cut out.

You need to start with another one in really rough shape, we have plenty of room to park cars here in Texas.
