Ive been creeping on here for years, researching and getting ideas for my car. I figured Id start a build thread for my 74 on here. This is my first air cooled car, so I am learning as I go. So far I have stripped the car down, replaced heater channel, rockers, lower qtrs and fenders. Stripped the pan, suspension components and coated them with POR15. Its lowered 2" up front with spindles, new tie rods, ball joints, caster shims and urethane bushings.
I'm working on getting the car wet sanded and buffed, when that's done I'm going to start on the braking system. I bought chevy pattern rotors for the front and chevy/ford for the rear. Im going to use the stock calipers in the front, and was going to use Pontiac Fiero calipers on the rear. Ive decided to go to the Porsche 5 x 130 pattern. So I am selling the rear rotors and Fiero calipers and will go with a complete rear disc kit. Ive got a pair of 15x6 Porsche cookie cutters, and will get 15x7 for the rear.
I'I also working on making my stock clock, a tach. I'm having a hard time finding a local place that's motivated enough to print out the sticker for me. Ive contacted 3 shops and they are all dragging their feet. I'm looking to use 914 seats, I bought a set of seats from a local guy that was out of his ghia. They were late 90s jetta K2 edition seats, but I'm thinking about selling them.

This is truly a beautiful build.
It looks like you have Bad Brakes rotors up front? We have a great deal of experience with brake combos here at RetroRacing on your chosen wheels.
The standard ATE-VARGA twin 40mm piston Ghia caliper (with racing pads) hold up in endurance racing with 50-series tires. When we used 60-series tires for higher top end, the increased leverage increased brake wear dramatically. We had to run Wilwood 4-piston (37mm) calipers up front.
We used the EMPI single-piston (hand brake) calipers in the back, and they were good, but not great. We went back to VARGAS, and when we upped to 60-series tires, the brake fluid boiled and the racing pads wore away. A change back to 50-series tires stopped all that.
I take it you're building for the street only?

Actually the front rotors are new, they just have some surface rust from string so long.
My brake plan is to use,
wildwood master cylinder
Stock rebuilt front calipers
Rear disc brake kit w/E brake
Wildwood proportioning valve
Universal braided stainless brake hose from Summit
The rear disc kit I plan to use is from California Imports. Is really like to use a caliper from a factory application to make pads easier to get.
The car is being built to be street driven, but I'd like to autocross it occasionally. I've read your threads on suspensions, but it's been awhile. I need to go back through and brush up on a few things. I'm not sure what I should do with my sway bars? I'd like to run as wide of a tire as I can front and rear. I think I can fit a 205 in the front and a 215 in the rear.

Should I run a oil cooler being that its turbocharged?
