converting baywindow to wide 5 question.......HELP!!
hi, newbie here, will a wide 5 backing plate from a split window bus bolt up to my 73 camper, or are the bolt patterns different? is there an easier way to convert the rear to wide 5??

X2 on that, but worst case scenario is that he'd need to get the whole hub carrier to make it go.sideshow wrote:I'm certain that a split bus backing plate will not bolt up to bay trailing arm (reduction boxes verses IRS style).
Now a bay window wide five is common from 1968-1970 but I don't know how they differ from small five bays.

I can't give you an answer on any adapters, I would think they are out there some where. You do know they will move your wheels out which may cause problems with fenders.
If you go with the wide 5...
For the front check the spindle length on a 68 - '70.
'64 - '79 use the same bearings.
For the rear they also use the same bearings, '64 - '79. You might be able to just swap out the backing plates and axle stub shafts, and drums.
For my 5 cents.... I'd find some wheels that fit the 5x112mm.

Re: converting baywindow to wide 5 question...
I don't mean to be rude but why? There's a ton more options of Mercedes rims and 5x112mm pattern out there to choose from.slammed73hightop wrote:hi, newbie here, will a wide 5 backing plate from a split window bus bolt up to my 73 camper, or are the bolt patterns different? is there an easier way to convert the rear to wide 5??

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Yeah, what he said. Late VW too. Google Detroit rims GTI. Those would look sick on a bus, don't know if they would fit as they're so wide...still. A set of decent 5x112mm rims shouldn't be more than $500.Piledriver wrote:Audi too, just have to open the holes a tad.Jadewombat wrote:I don't mean to be rude but why?
