'79 Bay Project
1979 Baywindow Bus I just towed home (with Hedrock's help). It has left quarter, wheelwell and rocker/ door track damage, but is otherwise solid and complete. I spent hours just cleaning out trash and scrubbing off ten years worth of mold, moss and lichen. I hope to have her running in a few days. I plan to weld in new panels to replace the problem areas, repaint inside and out and install a simple camper interior and roofrack. She'll be a canoeing/camping vehicle by next Spring. Well, that's the plan anyway !

What is this black box in the nose ? It has the speedo cable and some wires connected to it. Could it be cruise control or am I just too optomistic ?

You're probably right Ajdenette. That's the consensus on the Samba too. Dang ! I was hoping it was cruise control!ajdenette wrote:I believe its the o2 sensor to trip the light every 60,000

that box is certainly the box that lights the EGR light when you've done a lot of miles, you can reset the light by pushing the button. Bloody useless contraption. unplug it, find another purpose for the light

Re: '79 Bay Project
It/she's looking better ! Clean inside and out, mirrors, headlight, various wiring issues corrected and parts ordered. I want to have her running by the end of the week. (Driving is a whole other story) P.S. I know the mirrors are goofy, the arms were already there and I just bolted new mirrors to them for now. I'll weld the holes and put stock mirrors on eventually.

What mirrors I can't see no mirrors. Pics too small Jethro...........................
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.

Re: '79 Bay Project
I didn't get any actual work done on her today but I did buy the following needed items: New Battery, new fuel hose, filter and clamps. New vacuum and breather hoses. New air filter. 5 qts Castrol GTX and oil filter. 5 gallons fresh gasoline and fuel injector cleaner, etc. Complete tun-up kit is on order, as is a Bentley Manual. Also today, thanks to Sneaks, I found the M-Plate and decoded it at http://www.VW-MPLATE.com (great free service btw.) T2 7 seater Microbus. Sliding door right. LHD. Two-tone-Mexico Beige upper and Sage Green lower. Canyon brown leatherette interior with headrests, green tinted glass, sliding side windows on door and opposite. Rear window defroster. Build date Thursday 24 August 1978 (I know her birthday now) 4 speed manual, 1970cc GE engine etc. Tomorrow I HOPE to get her running !
