engine compartment wiring questions

Post by mentalQtip »

Hi guys again. Trying to replace carbs with fuel injection and I'm confused as to where wires go.
1. Where does the wire to the oil pressure sender come from? Color?
2. There is a conduit that has three wires in it that comes from the right front of the engine. It
contains a white wire and green stripe, a blue(green?) wire with black stripe, and a larger black
wire. Does the larger black wire go to the #15 on the coil? Where do the others go?
3. I don't have a alternator idiot light, but I'm

Is there a place that clearly shows what I'm asking about? I apologize if this is obviously shown
somewhere else.

Joseph,
I am surprised that you have not received a response to this.

The simplest way to go about this is to pull the valve cover off from the 1/2 side
(right side of engine as viewed from rear). This way you can rotate the engine
counter clockwise using a wrench on the alternator pulley until you get to #1 cylinder
BOTH VALVES CLOSED . rock the pulley back and forth a little to bee SURE you are @
TDC...NO rocker arm movement.

You really need to be careful of the distributor drive & the washer under it so it does not damage
the brass gear. at least you noticed the dist. pop up and it should not be that hard to re-index it.

You also need to have a repair manual for your bus so you can have a lot of valuable info at hand.
Bentley repair manual. green book.

The diagrams used in the Bentley manuals can be found online, too. Your bus is a `77 as I recall. The F.I. harness is independent of the one for the vehicle.

If you find it hard to follow the late "current track" diagram you can usually get your bearings by looking at one of the old semi-pictorial schematics that were used through 1972. In general, most of the wires and their color-coding are the same (but always use the correct one for your model year as the final authority).
