Midlife Crisis Tour, NH to CA

For a variety of reasons, I'm about to set off on a journey from New England to California in a 69 Westy. I'm in no real hurry - leaving at Thanksgiving, arriving some time around xmas. I'll be heading south before I go west, visiting friends along the way.

Any particular places I should check out along the way, or events to attend?

depending on how far south you are planning to head
the Florida panhandle was very nice when I visited it (from NY) last December
more mellow, more laid back and awesome beaches/ocean views. camped at a great campground

I've got a stop to make in Pensacola, so I'll be in Florida at least briefly. Thanks for the advice, I'll check out that park if it isn't too far out of my way.

At this point, I'm in California. I drove in through the southwest, ghost town after ghost town. If I get as far south as LA ill look for you.
