I'm having trouble even finding terms to search this one.
I'm getting conflicting information so I'm looking for more opinions.
I have a T4 engine in a '73 Bus. I have removed the dead mechanical fuel pump and pushrod, fitted a blanking cover to the hole and am setting up an electric pump.
But I have people telling me that without the pushrod or a "sleeve" in the pump pushrod bore, I will be bleeding oil pressure from a passage. bad. One person said to put the pushrod back in to prevent this. Push rod with no pump would be a disaster. So much for that opinion. Shop that built the longblock said it's a non-issue. "we build them like that all the time". But it wasn't their T4 guy talking.
What say ye?
(BTW, am I in the right forum? I got to this one from a search link...)

I just removed pump rod and made a cover plate, from what I could tell it was just splash oiled.
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

Quick search found this.
The rod isn't needed, but the brass guide needs to stay in.
Here is how I did the search.
