Run down on HIgh Ratio Rockers

Post by theKbStockpiler »

Hi, I'm aware of what High Ratio Rockers are and what they do but why are the cams specific to them?
Thanks for your expertise!

How much lift the cam has,

So say a cam designed for non ratio rockers (1.1) has cam lobe lift of .500, the valve will lift about that which on our heads is okay (obvs check for coil bind)

Now a cam designed for a ratio rocker will have less lift on the cam as the lift is gained in the rockers.....

If that makes sense?

Which in turn reduces the harshness of the ramps on the cam and side loads on lifters and their bores

My thinking was that there would only be the need for mild cams because the High Ratio Rockers would take care of that but I did not think about the duration. The High Ratio cams must be a low lift / high duration grind.
Thanks for enlightening me! :D
