Nothing special. Just not 99.99% of people never grease the distributor cam when they do a tuneup. I guess it's made to handle the heat and spinning shaft better than "regular" grease... whatever that is.

Awesome article Glenn! That will come in handy for a bunch of people I think.

... My question is, what do you do with all those distributors?

I'm keeping one or 2 for spares, but the others could be for sale. It's just my way if keeping busy during the cold winter months. It sure beats lighting the kerosene heater and sitting in the car with the garage closed listening to the radio.

Ah... only 75 more days to driving weather.

I too have been using the Bosch Distributor Grease for many years and not only on distributor shafts.
I also apply the Bosch dizzy grease on the clutch cable when I feed thru the clutch tube as well as the accelerator cable, lube the input shaft and gland nut bearing prior to installing the engine, grease the door/decklid/trunk latch assemblies, shift rod and bushings as well as the ball on the shifter that sits in the shift rod, and many other uses.

Hey Glen,
Thanks for the info in the Bosch 010. I just recently got one that needs serious cleaning before it goes on my 2332. Congrats on getting your car in the mag this month. I think your bug is the finest example of a late model I've ever seen. Chris

Thanks Chris.

If you need and help or advice with the 010, let me know. Just lay everything out when you take it apart so it goes back together the same way. Watch the fiber washers... they're real brittle.

Hey Glenn,
Chris again, and this time I'll promise to spell your name right. Where do you get the bosch grease I'm obviously going to be needing? Thanks in advance for any questions I might have when I tear my distributor apart. Also, do you know if the Pertronix kit fits in the 010 and is there any performance drawbacks to it? I've LOVED using it in the 009s I've always run before. Talk to you later, Chris

I get it locally, but i'm sure some of the catalogs carry it. Try RMMW or even some of the Porsche catalogs... like Stoddard or Tweaks.

They don't make a Pertronix for the 010, but i'm sure you can modify the contact plate to accept one. But i have to tell you that i've seen 2 Pertronix units fail in friends cars.

I use a Berg Ignitor system. It still uses the points, but they only trigger the control box. They carry no voltage, so they'll never pit. Also you gap them at only .010" (nice number)

I get my Bosch Dizzy Grease from the local VW Parts stores. They're about $7-8 for the tube.

Since you're located in San Marcos, I'm sure VW Paradise sells the Bosch Distributor Grease.
