*That* picture is of a complete distributor... No need to do that... Just the parts shown in the link I posted. I nearly fell over when you said the other "kit" was 300 dollars... Pertronix is the parts shown In My link, and the wiring is very important when you replace the old one with new. DO NOT GET THEM CROSSED or you will brick the new ones immediately. Take care and make sure the red wire goes where it should, and the black where it should... it's only 2 wires so it should be very easy, but many people screw this up... otherwise I wouldn't mention it at all. 89 bucks should take care of a failing ignition module... if that's, in fact, the problem.
I have found them completely missing more than once. - PILEDRIVER

As long as the distributor checks out[ excessive play, advance mech moving freely] all you should need is the proper conversion parts for that distributor [module @ magnetic ring]. I had 1 pertronix fail on me. Believe it happened while tapping the dizzy into place on a different long block. Replaced under pertronix warranty [18 mos?].

ok. I thought the distributors were also modernized because I must be having heat issues and my thoughts were to replace everything because maybe the new Distributors dissipate heat quicker or stand up to heat better then a 44 year old one

If it isn't already this writeup should be in the electrical forum in an easy to find post or how to.

Good post FJ!
