Project Oddball - A Build Saga

Post by Qurtys Lyn »

I call it Project Oddball, because I'm the only one in my family to build up a Street car, Dad and Brother both have Bajas. Now for Pics.

The trunk space, needs some work:
Image

Not the full extent of the Evilness that is Bondo: (The whole front end is getting replaced)
Image

The Bondo Infestation is over 1/2" thick in some places: (Also will be replaced)

The Drivers Front:

Dad's (BAJA-IT) Good side:

My Car's Good side: (Literally, the only good side)

The Passenger Rear when I was finished removing the infestation:

The inside:

A little bit on the roof, but used correctly here:

It's a '72 Standard, and it will look similar to this when I'm done, the three white stripes probably wont be on the finished car: (Concept created by a friend)

Yup Looks like a project.
You have your work cut out for your with those ruff panels.

I guess like everything else it's just time and money

It's more time now, I have most everything to replace the panels. Time is always a premium.

Hell, that's one of the nicest Utah cars I've seen. Apparently, "rust free" means just that...the rust comes free, no extra charge. ;)

Good luck with it!

I'm still looking for the pictures of when I got it, I know they're on my work computer, but can't find them at home. It has it's share of rust, the floorpans are a bit rusty, but not bad, and the front fenders used to be all rust, but i've cleaned them up now.

For the 500 I spent on this car, I've never had any issues with it.

Finished removing the Bondo from the Driver's front today, Should be the last De-Bondoing I have to do (except for sanding on the roof). Hoping to take the body off on Saturday.

Going to take care of the pan (new battery panel, patch holes on the beam, CV boots, and rear shocks, then POR-15 it).

Then the body (replace Passenger Heater Channel and rear Quarter, rear apron, the whole front end).

Then Paint.

And then the fun begins :D

Quick update, pulled the windows out, and started removing the headliner. I hope to pull the body off on Saturday. Pics will follow then.

Nice concept, I like the color scheme. My Utah Bug had the same bodywork, I wonder if they know each other:)

Pictures of what it looked like when I started.

The plans for it are shaving the Turn Signals, moving them to the bumper, and Trim (mostly cause it wont look right with the paint). The inside will be painted white like the Lower body. Pop-Out windows in the back. My 1641 (already done) will go in it to get it running. Then the real fun begins. :D

Whoa, I'm digging the retro yellow baja hiding ahead of the blue car above! I'm thinking about doing something drastic like that to mine with orange for the base.

Better picture of the Yellow car (BAJA-IT's):

He's had that car since he was 16, in 1976. The other one is my brothers. Mine is in the Garage. Light blue one is my parts car.
