28 PCI carburretor

Post by dustrat »

Having trouble trying to set up a 28 PCI carb to run properly. Have rebuilt carb after drilling carb body and installing throttle spindle bushes. Theres only one ajustment screw, volume control screw so should be easy ----but not , accelerator pump working OK and petrol coming through.

Carbs don't come much simpler. On a warm engine, choke fully off, start with the mixture adjustment ("volume screw") out ¾ turn from fully shut; adjust the idle speed screw for a 500-550 RPM idle, then adjust the mixture for maximum idle speed. Reset idle speed. Adjustment is correct when the engine doesn't stall when the throttle is snapped shut from WOT. If it does stall, richen the mixture slightly.

Are you certain that the ignition timing is correct? What distributor's in it? Initial timing setting is 7.5°BTDC on any of the OEM distributors available in the US, where that engine was available through the 1960 model year. It can be set statically; if checked with a strobe there should be no advance occurring at idle, but you should see it start to advance as soon as speed is increased.
