converting my SAND rail to a mud rail......ohh ya baby
First things first, sand tires gotta go bye bye! Cant use them in the mud/sharp rocks ect. Right now the rear tires are Dick Cepek 16.50-15's multi paddle, and the front are smoothee 4.50-15's by sand tires unlimited. My question is, Is it possible to run say 13"wide mud tires like micky thompson baja claws on the current sand tire rear rims, or would my current vw 1776cc engine not push a giant full mud terrain tire.

i think you would be better off posting in the off road forum . you might get awnsers alot faster .
as far as running that big of tire . your 1776 should do it just fine . what you should check is the transaxel i would only do it with a bus transaxel . two reasons are . the gear ratio of a stock T-1 transaxel is to high. the bus transaxel has a lower grear ratio.
the second reason is that a bus transaxel is much stronger that a T-1 .
the only other problem would be clearance .if you have an IRS setup you might find that the caps at the end of the torsion bars will limmit the diameter of the tire . i have 31x10.5 on mine.that leaves me about an inch of clearance but i also have stock length trailing arms. with longer trailng arms you can go with a bigger diameter tire .
you have to remember that the bigger the diameter of the tire will also increase your gear ratio. that will decrease your the low end power . another thing you might want to think about is the weight of the tires . big tire like that will put a lot of stress on your supension .
before you do any thing i would post your question on the off road forum .they guys there know way more about this stuff than i do and they will be alot more help
