Maybe I'm just reading it wrong but that almost sounds like a challenge...............probably just me

It's not a challenge unless you need that extra kick in the pants :D But honestly I'd love to see it out this summer.

Crap, I forgot all about this thread!

I have a ton of backlogged updates. I'll just post some of the better pictures here so that it's not redundant, but if you want to read the descriptions and stuff, please check the Samba thread:

Jeff (55Superbeetle) has done a ton of awesome TIG welding for me. I can't thank him enough, because without that help, the conversion wouldn't be going nearly as smoothly or as nicely as it's going. The dude does amazing custom work, so if you ever need something made up, be sure and shoot him a PM to see if he has a tiny window of spare time to help you out. You won't regret it!

It runs!

Still needs tuning, and a bunch of little things wrapped up, but at least it's making noise now!

Got to take it for a spin tonight, its going to be a fun car. It had a small sync loss issue with the Megasquirt after getting it running. After messing around with it for 5 hours last night I started fresh today and figured it out. I tried just about everything but the simple fix, the spark plug wires were running almost parallel and touching to the crank sensor harness. Moved them and bingo, all fixed! This weekend we will let autotune do its thing and hopefully I can convince him to turbo it by Sunday!

Some recent pics and vid

I'm following his thread over on The Samba. Very cool.

How well does the auto-tune setup work in Megasquirt? You just plug in a target A/F ratio, and it does its thing? You still have to set the timing curve, right?

It would be cool with a small turbo on it 8)

Yeah you have it correct. The VE live (autotune) is awesome. As long as you have an accurate wideband reading being fed to megasquirt (your wideband matches what MS is seeing)you can dial in the VE table in less than an hour of driving. There is still a bunch of other stuff that needs to be tuned before it will run like factory but it really helps get the ball rolling.

I imagine cold start settings take some time to get right, as you only get one shot at it at a time. Are you able to use the regular Subaru coolant temp sensor, or do you use a generic GM sensor?

You can use either one but we opted for gm stuff in this on because he moved them from the stock location. For your car you could just make a jumper harness so it could be plug and play with your stock harness.

by far my favorite subaru swap to date. usually you see all the wires and unneeded stuff in the engine compartments. this one looks extremely minimalistic. almost like it was made to fit there. I dig it.

plan to turbo it? if you ever have a free afternoon I would make the 30 minute drive to modesto if you would be interested in giving me a ride in it. it just looks plain awesome.
