75' Bay Bus, 090 Automatic, 2.2 Subaru conversion

Post by heli-easy »

This is going to be my first Subi conversion, but I have restored a few bugs and a bus previously.

The plan:
Its a 75 Riviera Camper Bus that currently has an automatic in it. I will be changing that out for an 090 auto tranny out of a Vanagon.
Also this bus is in rough shape right now. My plan is to focus only on the subi conversion. Once that's done I will work on restoring the rest of it.

My motor is out of a 95' Subaru, paid $200 for it. Came from someone planning to use it as a conversion so I came with most of what I need already cut out of the car. Only thing i didn't get was the exhaust system.

Began by stripping the parts off the top of the engine to get at the wiring harness. The insulation was brittle and breaking off.
Also cleaned the outside of the engine.

Bought this 2.5" exhaust tube for $20. Will be using it to make an intake runner. This is to flip the throttle body backwards to miss the buses firewall.

Next is dealing with the Subaru wiring harness. I laid it out on the garage to get an idea of what I am about to do.
First I need to strip off all the tape and fire conduit. I will be cutting out all the excess wires then lay out a suitable harness to run into the bus. I ordered a wiring instruction sheet from KEP, hopefully it arrives tomorrow.

Made an intake runner to move the throttle body away from the firewall.

My welds are not pretty, needed to turn up the heat but realized it too late.

No this project got put on hold. I moved into a new house. Have been busy renovating the house and shop for the past year. Going to roll this into the shop and start on it again soon wife wants it as a camping rig.

Wow so Photobucket is useless to me. I guess they now want $400 to continue using it to host my pics. What a scam!
