Type 4 to V8 NA to V8 NOS to 800 HP 8s V8 Turbo conversion

Post by joosep »

Sorry mates but nothing beats cubic inches :D

I decided to start cutting out my turbocharged type 4 engine to make some room for V8

Most of you may want to know WHY ? bacause I could buy this engine + gearbox here with less money than good condition stock type 4 costs :D Its deam relyable 300+hp and 400+ NM and this 6 speed gearbox has no problem with holding together....it takes less gas on freeway with 1800 revs / 100km/h and pulls from morning to late night without any problems. Now I will be able to go to some top speed event and when its still not enough I can double this power with no problems. Sound good when you have more NM than kilograms  Thouse engines go cheaper and cheaper here every day but my friend used one 2 years on drift car without any problems and it hitted 7400rpm and over 300 from rear wheels all day long. Thats why

It will be midengine ofcourse. Bought an engine week ago and it had to be 340hp 4.2 from Audi S8 but engine code says that atleast enginecase is 300hp A8. Fortunately the ecu comes from S8 because it can be recoded to manual gearbox. I hop the heads are from 340hp engine too but don't know yet. Gearbox came from audi C5 A6 150hp diesel. Its strongest manual gearbox I know from audi and it has 6 gears. Should be able to stay together eaven under some boosted V8  ( After getting it all together and working it will be turbocharged one day. I already removed the gearbox wires and ecu from stock wiringloom. I already ordered little chip for disableing immobilizer. I started welding frame for fonnecting engine with my body and hope to get engine in quite soon :)

Wow! Are you going to use the audi shifter or?

What about suspension? A forum member here (forgot name) grafted the front struts and a-arms from some model audi into the rear of his bug.

got some parts:

here in Estonian audi forum usually
220kw engine prices start from 300-400 up to 900eur max I think
250kw engine prices start from 600-700 but normally 800-1000eur
6 speed manual gearbox prices start from 200 up to 400
I looked parts as cheap as possible and I have around 800eur on the picture :) (Price I got from my 2.0 type 4)

suspensin......depends of the price they ask but if I can afford, I woul like to simulate in programs a whole new suspension. I have contact of a guy who built our record keeper drag cars suspension. If it costs too much Ill go with some stock audi parts.
I dont know what shifer Im going to use.

Yeah, thats really cool project Ive seen before but looks quite heavy and taking the engine out seems to be quite big job too. My first plan was to make the frame so wide that I could just lower the engine down but now it will be only little more tricky. Just open the rear lid and pull it out after disconnecting driveshafts, cables and hoses. I know its wrong attitude when Im thinkib about taking it apart when Im putting it together but I really like when its all simple, I can attach any bolt with regular tools and I have room to work.

If I would be an engineer like Hugo I would build some supercar body around it....bug looks odd to me when there is no connection between these two (I mean this monster roller and this beetle body) :)

Considered just using megasquirt to run the motor? Sounds like a nightmare trying to get the factory computer to work.

Cool engine. Can you ship them to the US...
