If I'm reading that right, that just puts out a series of pulses... regardless of speed.
Seems like that might potentially cause subtle running issues, but hey, if it keeps the ECU happy, that's good.

Seems like it would be (relatively) easy to put a hall sensor in the brake drum or rotor to pick up the backs of the 5 wheel studs.
World work on front or rear, run it off a 5v line from the ECU.
(IIRC Subys use a 5 tooth wheel)

If it was used for traction control, one front/one out back.

There is also IIRC a little "mixer" setup that can combine 2 rear sensors into one averaged output to allow for proper traction control.
(hit the msextra site, it was a counter setup, would have been usable on MS1e or maybe MS2e, ms3 has enough inputs it probably isn't needed)

I'll have to see if I can cram something in behind the rotor, that's a good idea. I have to do front and rear since I have a spool. My MS3-Pro/IOx has way more inputs than I'll ever be able to use.

If you want to use it for traction control you want more than 5 teeth on the wheel.
Most modern cars have ABS wheels with hall sensors, I think the VW ABS tone wheels are replaceable and probably usable with little work.
Every Mk4+ car in the junkyard has 4 wheels and 4 sensors.

IIRC you can do it from the IOX.

You are better off with a proper speed signal rather than a pulse generator, it can cause a few issues when the ecu thinks the car is always moving.

The later stuff uses road speed to dictate radiator fan operation, it will get hotter before the fans come on like that.
Also it can affect the idle speed, even mine which is very early 90s ej22 management will idle at 1200 when the car is moving but in neutral and drops to 800 soon as the car stops.

Wondered if you could put 5 rare earth magnets into the disk and have it read from there?

Or could you thread it into the Trans fill location on the side of a vw transaxle ?

I'm not sure the VW ABS sensors are halls, but some cars probably have halls.

What wheels are you running? Maybe the sensor could be pointed at the rim if there's spokes or slots. Just a thought

Just FYI the Subaru ECU only wants a signal it doesn't care what signal it gets it just wants to know it is moving or not etc.

You can use an on cable VDO unit

Well after some head scratching here's my version. It's a PNP NO 8mm Thread 2mm Inductive Proximity Sensor Switch DC 6-36V from Amazon with a flat bar bracket. This sensor is the same specs I've seen people use here and on the Samba but most of them are using an 8mm version.

This set up is behind my rear disk and lines up with the raised backside of the wheel studs.
