Re: Subaru Conversion build (EJ22)
Whats up guys I started working on the car again I finally have it running and driving with a new setup my cousin gave me his old pedal assembly from cnc and the hydraulic clutch is works great. ended up getting a 15 gallon fuel cell throttle cable is hooked up along with the exhaust and it has a nice grumble. put on a new timing belt and pump on the old belt was so old that it skipped enough teeth for it to be 90 degrees out of timing. It back fired and smoke came out of the intake before after the new belt it idles perfectly at 800. When i got the exhaust done I only put in the upstream o2 sensor since the second is for cat efficiency and i wont be running a catalytic converter. Took it down the road and damn is there a difference from the old vw engine It bogs like crazy about 3000 + rpm im assuming this is because i dont have a speed sensor hooked up yet. Which I bought one from small car my dumb self did not realize the bus axles are NOT the same as a super beetles... so from my noob mistake now im not sure what direction to go I was looking at this thread and it look interesting since the sensor is only 3 bucks and some change so what do you guys think of it? http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewto ... ?p=7472253 Im going to upload some pictures too I also made a pretty interesting setup so i can have my vdo sender standing straight up its kinda an inverted set up i used an old timing belt idler so i can use the old belt. I caution you it might look goofy the belt stays and does not move at all but it doesnt charge im assuming its because the wiring is not right. I have a grey rectangle plug one is black and white real small (assuming it is for warning light) and the others white not sure where it goes yet. Heres a short video from a couple days ago. https://youtu.be/7WDAH0ZgDSY

looks like a type 1 trans? I havnt read the whole build just started checking this site out again. how is it holding up now that you have gotten to move it around on its own? do you think you will be able to hold up to the power of the new engine?

yeah its a type 1 super beetle trans ( haven't checked codes on trans to be 100% sure) w/ a freeway flyer so far so good ill rarely drop the clutch i'm pretty gentle with it! sorry for the late reply its been a minute since i've been on but yeah its moving nicely now figured out what the parasitic drain was on the buggy now i don't have to unhook the negative battery every night now so ill be able to get some codes hopefully. i also put a pin in spot 50 on the 96?? pin connector for the ecu (i think its 96 pin) i'm still tinkering with seals and cleaning the IAC. i'm starting to look into and ej205 (02-05 wrx motor) with the stinger ems and out front motorsports custom harness, after do the first one id rather just pay someone to do it. i'm glad i did it thoughbad_chopper wrote:looks like a type 1 trans?
