MSD 8239 coil on an EJ22

Post by danielzink »

I decided to try this just for kicks....been reading about it in various old threads here and there...so I gave it a go.

Stock 91 EJ22 coil pack:

It helps to have an extra manifold hanging around to take measurements from ;) :

Here's the MSD 8239 coil next to the stock coil:

The MSD is just a little too big....two bolts line up...but not the others:

Get yourself some 3/4" wide steel...measure and drill some holes..:

Check it all for fit:

Then remove everything...and tack your bolts up so you only need one wrench to remove the coil:

Mounted up:

Now the wiring......

Your old coil must make the ultimate sacrifice:

You need a connector from a 2000 (ish) Neon...I got this one off the 'bay for around 8 bucks PN# HP3925

Make it look nice and put a little loom around it:

And only because I'm a little obsessive....or OCD...whatever :D ....I bought two sets of plug wires:

So that the wires came off symmetrically...

That all being said...I also did the throttle reversal mod so I had plenty of room to do straight boots on both sides.

HTH !
