914 oil temp sender plate
O.K. here we go.
There is the O ring and the 2 screws with the crush copper gaskets.
I have a shield that covers the sender and has a guide to secure the wire to.
What is the correct stack? crush washers under the head? between the plate and the shield?
A no leak install looks good until the shield comes into the equation. I prefer to install this piece because those smart engineers put it there to begin with.

Come on, almost 3 weeks and no one could help this guy out.
Correct stack:
Sender plate with O-ring
Paper gasket
Shield
Bolts with copper crush washers
Yes there is a paper gasket that goes between the sender plate & shield, I know they come in complete gaskets, but knot sure if they can be had separately ?

Thank you, thank you,
I kept trying the paper gasket and somehow it made no sense to place it where it belongs.
Under the heavy plate, it won't seal all the way around, so it had to go between the plate and the shield ( when I get ready to wire the sender)
Right now I need to get two new copper crush gaskets because I had given up on the shield and torqued the screws down.
Merry Christmas/ Happy Holidays to all.

I'm not sure that I understand the 'shield' part... any pictures or diagrams available? I'm trying to make sure that my 1.7 has all the required bits; I have a leak on this plate that needs to be fixed -Type 4 Unleashed wrote:Come on, almost 3 weeks and no one could help this guy out.

There are 2 different Taco plates a plain one and the other is recesed for the oil temp sender.
The shild is for the Plate with the sender, the shield has a small hole for a rubber boot and has a small bracket that holds the wire to the sender.
If your plate doesn't have an oil temp sender, then no need for the shield.

Same copper washer's in the Type one oil strainer kit, 6 or 8 I forget and 2 Type 1 oil strainer gaskets, the kit is only like a couple bucks at any VW shop-Auto Parts store.Manny wrote:Mine leaks at one of the crush washer locations. That is a standard AN part number. I will check with the local aircraft hardware place before I pay bigger bucks for a complete gasket set.

Wow, I don't know how I missed this one...
Sorry for the wait
Is she drip-free now?
I like the anerobic sealant Jake prefers for the blocks this job. (And many others)
Cleans up/peels off with a shot of brake cleaner.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
