air filter clearances

Post by finchmunoz »

hi... anyone running 48IDAs on their 914? What air cleaners did you use?

I'd like to install a pair of IDAs on my 914 with the stock velo stacks and full air cleaners (and not just those stack filter covers).... i'll be removing the rain tray though...

It will depend on how tall your manifolds are. I have seen them in different heights, so you won't know how tall an air filter you can use until you install your manifolds & carbs and measure.

If you pull the rain tray, consider for a set of rain hats.
I have had hydro lock after being parked in a very heavy downpour prior to installing them.

If you are a function trumps form type, Bakers Secret loaf pans work great.

K&N filters are ~transparent to rain, and the rain also tends to "wash" junk through gauze filters... but at least IDAs don't suffer the same everything-drains-into-the-idle-jets issue IDFs suffer.

Uni-filter makes excellent oiled foam filters that are actually excellent filters, including "pod" (stack) filters.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
