I wish it was complicated..... Those were the days.
I have 9 thermocouples on my engines as we speak. I don't have one for warmup / coolant enrichment, which was the point of this 4 page thread.

I will use the most accurate sensors I can afford regardless if the OEM's use them or not. This is my motor not theirs. The motors they test in the R&D Dyno room are TC'ed up the yang. My motor is a one off so I consider it R&D, it needs to be monitored the best I can afford.
Remember we are talking warmup / "over heat" enrichment here.

I'm new to doing full-MS, is there any reason you can't use the stock VW temp II sensor or does it have to be the GM type one?

You can program in the temp curve on any regular temp sensor, I use boiling water , a bag of frozen peas and a thermocouple thermometer to do this .If you are talking about the Mexican head temp then yes you can use that too

Here's our new temp sensor
M6 thread 8mm hex stainless -40 to 250C thats -40 to 482F
Sensor tip is actually down the thread a couple of mm so offset will be negliglable

Normally just supply them with kits and at £35 they're a bit pricey
