I just did a little google for "fuel sump" and found this. It's designed to be welded to the bottom of the tank.

VW makes a nice fuel sump for the Fox and some later cars...
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

That page says "fuel filter" but it really is more of a swirl pot, right?

Already been there Steve. That thread is how I knew to look for that particular part. What I'm saying is that those sites I found that list it, show it as out of stock. When I tried to order it from busdepot, they told me it was out of stock and they had no idea when it would be available again.
So now I'm looking at alternatives I can either make, buy or adapt. All it has to do is protect me against getting air in the system. Shouldn't be rocket science.

In the meantime Max, just keep over a 1/4 tank of fuel in there and you will be fine.

But its designed for a drag race car and to be put at rear of tank so on acceleration the fuel moves backward into lower part of tank.... Not necessarily a good design for daily driver...Max Welton wrote:I just did a little google for "fuel sump" and found this. It's designed to be welded to the bottom of the tank.

Just go to hardware store or plumbing warehouse and get a piece of copper waste drain pipe 6-8 inches long a couple of "caps" and a few brass fittings and solder one up... If it holds anywhere from a pint to a quart of fuel it shroud do the trick.... You could actually put a air bleed valve on it ti initally get it full and release al the air at time of installation...
Its just a chamber with two inlets and one outlet....

Think this is sort of interesting...

Did you try at your local official VW dealership? That's where I bought mine.Max Welton wrote:Already been there Steve. That thread is how I knew to look for that particular part. No. But if you got one, it's worth a try.

That was one year ago, and it was in Europe. But it's always worth trying.

Always thought one of these would make a nice little surge tank:

All 3/8" ports, should provide plenty of flow.

Re: MS-3 2110 Buildup
Did a trial assembly of the bottom end this weekend and initial deck ranges from .000" to .005". So I won't need to trim the cylinders but will need either .040" spacers or copper head gaskets.
