How-to for cable linkage--dual throttle bodies/carbs
I keep seeing more of these cable linkage setups, how does one go about doing this? Cable length/sleeve, throttle shaft cams, etc.? Is the a how-to article or does someone sell this set up?

That particular system shown you can buy. Only place/person selling it is Jake Raby:
http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/stor ... t=0&page=3
He's got a samba ad posted up too. Kinda spendy, but definitely a nice product. Got a good buddy that bought one of the systems, and he really likes it. I've seen it in person, and it looks great.
Nothing stopping you from making something similar. Cable and cable housing and ends are easy to come by (https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/produ ... oduct=1271). Not quite as pretty as all those machined aluminum pieces in the kit, but nothing stopping you from making that stuff to if you have the skill/machines to do so. I'm working on spec'ing out the various pieces to make my own cable setup. The biggest hang up I've found is trying to get some kind of cable wheels to mount to the carbs. Apart from making your own, the ONLY thing similar I have found so far was on Ebay for Harley Davidson guys wanting to run Weber carbs (http://www.ebay.com/itm/360322556601?it ... m=&vxp=mtr)

This may help provide some ideas...
The pulleys are optional, I ran with modified Weber arms for years.

Interesting read Pile... Thanks for posting.
I hadn't seen that thread before, and it really explains the "back story" of the product. Like I said, my buddy really likes his kit.
I'm still going to have to DIY something for what I'm dinking with. Its all theoretical in my head at this point, but am trying to get around using two "left hand" throttle bodies (hey don't laugh, the price was right), so the standard kit wouldn't work without some mods.

Re: How-to for cable linkage--dual throttle bodies/carbs
There are obviously different ways to go about it, couple examples; full length from the pedal, with push/pull cam on one bank and pull only on other. You could graft the new portions of cable to the existing throttle cable. Or you could do both banks as pull only with some sort of union/splitter.
The hardest part for me was the throttle cams, as it isn't easy to come by a good cheap set. I opted to take the most generic looking cam from a wrecked car at the salvage yard and mod it to work on my application. The time i spent in modifying this cam... o god... I should have just contacted someone to make me a matching set, like supaninja did with his sweet cams/pulleys.
Next hardest was making custom throttle stops/adjusters if using non-prepared itbs like the gsxr bodies.
Overall, the making of the cables, ends, conduit, etc, was suuuper easy compared to the other junk i decided to throw into the equation.

Re: How-to for cable linkage--dual throttle bodies/carbs
I used some scrap angle iron, a drill and a sawzall, with bicycle brake cables from Wal-mart.
Drilled out some 5/16" SS capscrews for the adjusters. (softer & no rust)
It lasted >50 K miles, only had to adjust it once, and another 50+ with pulleys
(only took it off to go CIS)
I think it took me ~45minutes and <$20, including the $5 splitter from a motorcycle junkyard.
It wasn't ever going to win a beauty contest, but it was essentially bulletproof.
Being pissed off at the CB hexbar was a great motivator.
It does NOT have to be complex to work well, pulleys are not required.
Petes setup is simply a work of minimalistic art bordering on perfection IMHO.
Supas contact will make more IIRC...
Note: for proper "throw" a 914 needs slightly different dia pulleys/levers, as may a Bus.
All T1/3/Ghia/Thing (with common pedal cluster) should be interchangeable, may be slight difference early/late.
YMMV.

Re: How-to for cable linkage--dual throttle bodies/carbs
Looking at the design, it seems pulleys would have two major benefits...ease of mounting location selection, and if you wanted to get sophisticated you could make eccentrics to change the throttle shaft speed....non linear.

Pile, would you care to comment on wheel size necessary for traditional IDF/DRLA setups?

Re: How-to for cable linkage--dual throttle bodies/carbs
Just a helpful tip for other DIY'ers...
I was doing searching to see what kind of throttle wheels might be available off the shelf, but was not finding much. Did a search today for throttle PULLEY instead of wheel, and got a lot more hits. FYI!

I'll have to dig them back out, but I think I know where both sets are.Vee Dub Nut wrote:Pile, would you care to comment on wheel size necessary for traditional IDF/DRLA setups?
It's more of a function of the gas pedal setup throw than the particular TB used, x linear motion to get 90 degrees rotation.
If you rework the throttle connection (as you should if you have a T1) you can drill the new hole for a clevis or pivot ball over a fairly wide range, but much trial and error makes for a weaker pedal arm.
IIRC the 914 pulleys need to be a tad larger in dia, as the 911 pedal setup has more throw than a T1.
...Or that could be backwards as I have slept many times since then.

Re: How-to for cable linkage--dual throttle bodies/carbs
Here is what I did, since I'm using gsxr throttle bodies, i just used the oem pulley then Devastator machined me a really nice aluminum pulley to the same specs as the oem one. Most of the parts I got from http://www.greenskyadventures.com/throt ... ized09.htm with a couple from pegusis racing. I'm running a full cable to the pedal mated with a small heim joint, then to the oem pulley in a pull-pull configuration, and finally oer to the other TB and into Devastator's sweet pulley.
http://supaninjanick.wordpress.com/2011 ... d-potatos/ that's kinda a break down of it
http://supaninjanick.wordpress.com/2012 ... t-part-ii/ here's my current setup with the new pulley.
I'm into my cable setup with the custom pulley maybe $125, it would have been a lot cheaper if I hadn't bought a ish-ton of extra cable and sleeve

Re: How-to for cable linkage--dual throttle bodies/carbs
Nice.. Thanks Nick!
I've got some ideas for how I'm going to handle mine, but the throttle wheel thing is going to be the most difficult. I'm either going to have to make something, or get someone to make something for me I think. Haven't found anything off the shelf yet that I think will work.
