Suitable injectors

Post by Tobias Bylund »

Hi, i am building a 2110cc engine using comp eliminator heads and manifolds for IDF pattern throttle bodies, but i am having a hard time finding injectors that fit, i had a set of EV1 injectors at hand but they dont fit the boss in the intake manifold, the body of the injector is too large. I have talked to CB performance that i bought the manifolds from, but they couldn´t supply anymore information then OEM GM style, but what does that mean?

I am wondering if anyone else has had the same setup and know what injectors fit? The are mounted in the manifold and rails are held down with a bracket that is mounted to one throttle body stud, so the length is also relevant. I would ideally like the newest EV14 style injectors. I will be using MS2 which i believe can control High Impedance injectors?

Thanks!
Regards
Tobias

Where are you located??

Post a pic of your injectors that won't fit.

You should be able to use the standard Bosch injector with the EV-1 connector.....

Here are mine and they fit the CB encastings and should fit your style too.

I suggest talking to Mario at thedubshop.net about his injector holders since the CB setup has had it's problems.

He's running IDF manifolds/TBs so the stock style body injectors may not fit due to the angle/clearances.
GM/Ford/VW (and most modern port injectors) look more like the 4 on the left here:
For scale the "TPI" injector is the old school injector body size VW used back in the day.
The units I'm currently using were from a Yamaha Waverunner (Late GSXR 1000 ~same) and look similar to the one on the far left for LS7/9

zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Here is a pic of cb supplied injectors in their IDFs. The fat part sits flush with the injector bung casting and sits against it.

That looks like plenty of room, aren't there some setups with inside position injectors for body clearance?
Perhaps they need the skinny body injectors?

My stock port style IDF efi manifolds have no trouble with pencil style or the older style injectors. Make sure you have 14mm O-Rings top and bottom.

Thanks guys for the replies and suggestions, i am away for work in Norway at the moment so i dont have access to the garage to take pictures, but i will do so when i get back home (Sweden). The injectors that i have at hand are some 350cc´s from a mistubishi eclipse i believe, but i remember when i tried them out in the manifold i felt that they did not seat in the bottom of the pocket, but rather seated on the fatter portion of the body against the casting, and it just didnt feel right, but maybe that is the way the are designed to be? The reason that it did not feel correct is that i was changing injectors on my Mini Cooper S at the time and they were newer pencil EV14 injectors, and they seated on the oring at the bottom, so i was comparing to that.

My injectors are placed on the inside of the TB´s, towards the fan housing, so a little less room to play with.

I cannot see the picture that Pildriver attached, probably a blocked site, stupid company policies.. :)

I know Mario makes really nice stuff, i bought one of his trigger wheel setups for my engine, but i already have the rails and holders and everything from CB so i think i need to make them work as i am already spending gobs more on this engine than i should!

? Its a gearhead (GM) aftermarket retailer, AFAIK its all clean, no telling why they'd block it.

(I clipped the http://www. part of the address so you can see/copy//paste the full url, the board software shortens it for display)

Perhaps Google or thewaybackmachine has it archived, or just Google images for LS2/3/7 and LS1 injectors.

Its possible you just need larger orings as Chip noted.
May just fall in the hole otherwise.

just pasted the url, got this message " Reason: The category of Pornography Video has been blocked by your System Administrator" hahaha, typical with forums, lots of threads with dirty pics and videos, no worries, i just google imaged and found probably the same picture; alot of injectors in a row..? Anyway, i am leaning towards LS2 or LS1´s if i can find something that fits. The ones i have at hand are the old TPI´s, and as you say they might need larger orings to seat correctly, but they are on the small side of what i need as well so i think i need new ones anyway.

Thank you, will do some more research, but it is making more sense now thanks to the help that i got here.

I asked Mark Lawless the same thing a few months ago: About 65mm long, 14mm diameter (at the o-rings). Length can be changed depending on how your rail is bracketed.

Awesome, thanks for that! I will look into it and mock up the heads with manifolds and TB´s and rails to see what window i have to work with, doing rust repairs right now so all the engine parts are under plastic wraps to protect from particles.

Porsche 944 models have those injector boots. The later ones not early with CIS injection of course. They have a lot of nice harness parts if you get a chance to go after them at a parts yard.

Those injectors and plugs came off of a 94 Volvo 940 turbo Wagon.

I scammed the Fuel pump, filter , injectors, IAC valve and the TB for $20.00 about 4 yrs ago.

I have outgrown the injectors and have to move on to bigger ones.
