It still does, there's a V.5 board in the works that's ~all SMT and uses an automotive AMP connector.

Did they fix that routing issue on V.41 or .42 boards?
The bare boards are like $10 if you can DIY.

Properly done jumpers are not a cracking hazard, think SMT and wire wrap wire.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

So the only reason this has "hit a dead end" is because of a possible grounding issue? I'm still intruiged

No it is not dead. I built one board earlier but it's not installed in a running engine yet. It does work however when I've tested it with a simulator.

I believe that the boards you purchase now are all fixed, I just happened to buy 4 boards with the flaw in it. Just don't order a version 0.4.1

After spending several months trying to figure it out I recently found out the .04 version of the board has a design flaw and the grounds were not attached. The only solution is to surface solder jumper wires the grounds under the board. Because I am building a buggy, I really didn't want a surface solder joint breaking off while bouncing around in the middle of the sand dunes.

I am backtracking to a microsquirt system very frustrated that I wasted the money and more importantly time.

Been watching the development of speeduino and it’s far from a stalled project.

The continues to be progress and various hardware solutions. The original “mega” will continue to be supported but other boards are also being used.

Couple of interesting link to show what’s going on:

Early dev work on speediknock. It appeared a while ago and then paused but work is back on (2hr video!)

Another side project is a can-bus dash solution linked to the ecu. In car demo drive:

I have Ran a 0.3 speeduino on my Corrado R32 (3.2 vr6) project and hope to use a Mega 3.5 on my beetle project which is a speeduino based ecu from https://www.everythingfuelinjection.com/ its a bit different to megasquirt (ms2 and Ms3x) that I am used to using even though it uses tunerstudio.

It looks like some 6 cylinders are now running fully sequential spark and injection now, fellow with a bmw building plug and plays.
If it supports the recent subaru 3.6s timing wheels and cam control it might be a candidate for an upcoming project.

He (speeduino) did a you-tube video on coding trigger wheel patterns and described the odd Subaru design (& why it is quite clever).
So think the answer is yes

I've been running a Speeduino ECU in my 1776 type 1 for about a year with good results. I started with spark and added fuel injection recently. Very smooth. Here's the write-up I did for Speedsterowners:
