Speeduino

Post by andy198712 »

This looks to be gathering speed now...

and uses TunerStudio which is a plus for me, i'm tempted to try it as an upgrade to my MS1 2.2

Is it the future for the budget ECU do you think? now MS is into the 4 figure price tag for the ones they are pushing development for, MS3 is up high on prices too and seems to be the only one still developed?

I am tempted to try it....

Thoughts ?

i don't know why but i thought that thread was a lot older! sorry! only the one user on there who had a dodgy batch of boards it seems.

the reasons behind me wanting to upgrade from MS1 2.2 is that i want to direct drive the coils, which i could mod the board to do but the 2.2 platform is all but dead for the last 5 years or so.... and the future of MS seems to be the Pro which is out my budget, and this is a lot cheaper then buying a MS3 which was my original plan.

also i like to try these things, you never know!

I'll order one at the end of the month maybe, gives me some more time for research on it! unless anyone drops some crazy bank holiday deal today

You could just upgrade to the Ver. 3.0 Board like I did and set it up for direct fire.
Move up to MS2 while you are at it.
MS1 is more than capable of running a simple batch fired EFI setup. If you don't have a turbo and not interested in all the bells and whistles it is incredibly easy to get a very nice running tune with it.
Many first timers or even others add all the extras and then find themselves with a rather expensive system that they don't have the time or knowledge to even utilize.
Don't get me wrong....it's nice to have that if you are going for all out performance...but for a daily it really isn't needed.

I am thinking of or rather fully intend on going turbo.... probably you to thank for that lol

The ms I have is 2.2 so just more faff then a v3 board.... may look into it, just pricing upgrading options really and MS3 isn’t the cheapest upgrade, but like you say I really don’t need it and 2 would be fine.... lots to weigh up!

Do you mean I can upgrade my 2.2 board with a daughter board or something? I think I have the bare ms2 chip in a box somewhere..... and a dew bare 2.2 boards...

You will have to solder up a new Ver. 3.0 board.
It has all the new circuits already on it for direct fire. It's pretty easy to setup up compared to the Ver.2.2 board. If you ask Mario there is a way to go direct fire on a 2.2 board but you need to add an external board to do it.
I just sold my 2.2 board when I found this 3.0 board for sale used.

3.0 bd has IGN onboard already and is a much better platform to start from. My first was a 2.2 board already modded for spark, I have since built 3 3.0 boards and done direct single coil from dist, and 2 wasted spark w/ crank sensor, with MS1 on 2 and MS3 on one. Way easier to setup. MS1 has stable code as does MS2(as far as I know) and MS3 seems pretty good too. If you use a coil with built in igniter, direct control doesn't even require the high power transistor, it can be run off the LED(s). That is how I did the wasted spark, super simple. I've even seen a v2.2 board trigger the same way on a single coil.

Well in that case i can blame you both... ;) last night i stumbled across a guy on EBAY selling a blank V3.0 board.... so googled the cost of parts to build it up ect and offered him £40 GBP and he accepted :) Looking at DIGIKEY the parts seem to be about $100 USD which is about £70 GBP so for £110 i can have MS1 V3

I'm lucky in that i have a box of odds and sods all related to MS, plugs and MAP sensors ect which will save a bit too and an MS chip in there.

From there if i need to go MS2 or 3 i can buy the daughter board and see....

Can i use my MS1 chip from my V2.2 board on the V3 board?

This is cheaper then going Speeduino for me and its something i already know and have the harness ect... i basically want a new project to play with and direct fire the coils for launch control purely as a challenge (my trans wouldn't stand much of it)

Thanks

Thats not to mention if it all works out well i can sell my MS1 for a good amount more then this, prices on UK ebay seem to be crazy!

Yes, you can. And you can add the MAP daddy MAP for Baro correction real easy if you need it.

MS1 and MS2 use the same socket so you are good to go.

It seems the newer the ECU the more options and tabs you get to play with. That can be good or bad.

I had a really nice running tune with my MS1 in a very short time. It might not have all the bells and whistles but it will do you well until you want to upgrade.

I wouldn't worry about a second Map Sensor for a flat country. Even 4000 ft never really bothered my engine when driving locally but it seemed to work good when I had the Map Daddy for my California trip with 3500-8000 ft changes.

MS3 uses same socket also, just needs a couple of sockets stacked to allow it to clear board components.
