Tire Clearance

Post by rcrego »

I have dropped my front end on my notch 3 splines. I have a 5 1/2 X 15 chrome rims that I am going to put on the front with 165R. Am I going to have a problem with clearance when I am turning? Thanks in advance. Rich

you are going to a bug offset which sticks the tires farther outboard. this limits tire size on it's own. next, you lowered the car alot. you need something in the 175/55/15 range or smaller if you run a bug offset.

The 5.5" 914 Mahles I pulled off the Pile look/fit great on the t3... ET35 or 38 IIRC.
(With 195-65s no less)
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

These are the Mahle "gas-burners" optional on 914/4s:

They're ET40 (6mm less than the stock 4½" Type III steel rim). This puts the outer sidewall out almost ¾" (18.7mm) and the inner sidewall in by ~¼" (6.7mm)

Without knowing the offset/backspace of the chrome rims Rich wants to use it's not possible to predict what clearance issues he may have, but I agree in principle with vwfye.

Curious... What offset are they using whih 7" rims I see used?
(admittedly usually not on a slammed car)

I have seen several DD T3s w/o flares running 7" D90s and such.

Mine is 2 spline with 65 walls. It's low but not slammed.
