Replacing the rocker panels in my '66

Just found a good deal on a pair of decent rocker panels for my '66 square. Good thing as mine are almost nonexistent.
I have never tackled anything like this before. Any tips or procedures someone can point me to, or is it just; cut away the bad stuff, clean up the rust and weld the replacements in?

Look at thesamba.com forums. There's some pretty extensive builds over there on T3s with metal work done.
