67-only turn signal woes

Mine isn't smooth, but it works. Except for the dimmer-switch.

Any chance it internally has the same microswitch found in the type-1 units?

Better would be if someone has a better 67 turn signal switch they'd be willing to part with.

Don't recall what's unique about the `67 (presumably earlier are the same too?) Type III t'signal switch but I don't see anyone selling them; the `66/`67 Type I switch (141 953 417F) evidently doesn't fit either.
Since all the dimmer switch does is send a ground pulse to the hi/lo relay, if all else fails I suppose you could mount a generic horn button to the floor (where the old-style dimmer switches lived) and wire it to do that...

I don't know for sure if anything is unique about the 67 turn signal switch. Might be that all the earlies (up to 67) are the same. The folks over on the type-3 list and on tos tell me as much. I'd love to have a nice fresh one but, as you say, no one seems to be selling them.

I just came in from a session of wire-labeling. Fun when you're color-blind.

I am slowly reconstructing the wiring on my 67 Fastback. And it's a mess. I can take nothing for granted.

I have disconnected everything under the dash and am slowing labeling everything I can, using a continuity tester and a 12 volt trickle charger. It's slow going, but I've got most of the wires to the various lights IDed.

At the moment I am working on the steering column. Luckily the ignition switch seems functional, although I've only identified 3 of the 4 wires for the switch on the schematic. I got "15", "P" and "30", but the fourth one also seems to be marked "30" on the switch. I can't make it out, the wire is the striped one.

The more vexing problem is that I don't know where I should have continuity between wires when the turn signal switch is set to "right" and "left".

The on-line schematics are no help at all in this regard. They don't even call the column switches out individually. It's just a spray of wires coming out of "E". :?

I do know which wires are from the ignition switch and the dimmer so at least I'm only working with what's left. But at the moment I get nothing in any position of the turn-signal switch.

Assuming the switch is electrically inoperative, I'm going to have to take it apart and try to restore it. Any help on how to do that?

I dunno for sure what the function of "P" is, that's only on the non-US-market cars I think. I suspect it's for the function of the European one-side-only parking light system, where when the key is in the off position you can select L or R on the t'signal switch and it provides steady power (through an auxiliary set of wires in the t'signal switch) to the parking lamps on whichever side of the car is closest to traffic - doubles the battery life compared to just leaving all the parking lamps on. These ancillary wires are all basically gray and usually smaller-gauge, with the switch output for the left having a black stripe and the right having a red stripe.

Note that the wires emanating from point "E" are marked with their DIN terminal designation, which gives some clue about their function (although sometimes a little gets lost in the translation to English). ...

I think the black/red-striped mystery wire at your ignition switch must be Term 50 (starter solenoid control) which is shown as solid red on the diagrams.

Standard DIN color code for the (flashing) power coming out of the flasher to the t'signal switch is black with both white & green stripes .... coming out of the switch, left is black/white-stripe and right is black/green-stripe.
