Radio volume question
In my bug I've got some 6.5's up front in the kickpanels, and a couple 6x9's in the back on a panel I made. My question is that the left side of the car seems to be quieter than the right. It's more pronounced when I'm driving, but I'm sure that's from the road noise. I didn't know if there was a way to test to see if the same level output was coming from both speakers or not. Also I didn't know if I got some component speakers would they help with this problem or not. I know I can adjust the balance, but with it mostly on the left it doesn't sound as good. If you need any more info let me know. Thanks alot.

try fading it all left & then all right..
see if it get as loud on both side..
(Are they on a amp or just the Head Unit?)
Then fade all front ,all rear.. see how it diferz..
After the test fade it 85-90% to the front & have the balance set at the center..
see how it ssounds..
if its the same try using a DMM (Digital multi meter)
and cheak the voltage on each speaker..
Let us know the out come ..

Allright here's what happened. I connected the multi-meter in line with the speaker. That's probably not the greatest way to do it but it seemed to work. On the left site, front & back, I was getting .008-.010V. On the right I was getting .032-.035V or so for the front & back. That is with the head unit balanced F&B and L&R. I'm guessing that my head unit is defective or something like that. On the voltages, I'm sure that they would be higher if I had disconnected the speaker fully. I didn't think to check the amps but I can if that would help.
I don't think this would matter but if they put the four left side wires in switched (+/- not f/b) would this cause the problem that I'm having or would this not matter. Thanks for the help.

I tried it again with the speakers fully disconnected and it did the same thing. I also tried to measure the amps and couldn't get anything, I'm pretty sure that they were connected properly. Oh yea. The speakers are connected through the high volume outputs. I also have the low volume outputs too. I think that's what their called. If I can find a reasonable amp I might try to connect them through those and see if they are and different.

Right now the speakers are just on the head unit. It's an Alpine CDM-7874. I've had it for a few years so I don't think that they make that model any more. I've got two Alpine 6.5's up front and a couple Kenwood 6x9's in the back. On the amp, I'll probably look around here for a good one or see if any of my friends have one that they don't want. Thanks for the offer though, I'll let you know if I need a hand getting one. Let me know if you need anymore specs and I'll get 'em to you. Thanks alot for the help, I really appreciate it.
