It can sit in the frame horns and use the std shifter setup with a little grind and weld on the frame horns.
(I put an 091 in my sons bug a few years ago, to take a hot 2L T4 motor)

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

This is an 091 bus conversion but the three rib and 5 rib are about the same. On the first page there is a picture too but about half way down there is a good shot on how the bus nose cone comes in in relation to the top of the pan. The dimension for the nose cone is roughly 3" higher.

Raising the transmission is Awesome if you want to lower the car 3-4"... or increase your CV joint angles and limit your travel. Its a great mod for swing axle drag cars to get the camber to ~ zero.
I guess its easier? (no) Looks cool? If you want an exposed shift linkage ...

I have a rail so nothing is common but I raised my shift linkage, shifter etc. There are + & - to all mods. It's all in what works best for the project and what the long term goal is.

Re: 68 baja build
id like to to notch the frame horns a bit. then the linkage is in the tunnel still. and i want that. also lower cog and as stated you get more travel. Now im assuming i need to buy mounts of some sort. while im doing that i have to solid mount the thing too. and tie the framehorns to the cage. im thinking im gonna cage it get that done then start collecting irs parts.
should be getting work done today so expect pictures.

Got a drawing of what you are planning? Notching is a curious term that means many different things to many people. Make sure you are not weakening things and disturbing the pan's ID number.bikesndbugs wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2017 8:50 am id like to to notch the frame horns a bit. then the linkage is in the tunnel still. and i want that. also lower cog and as stated you get more travel. Hmmm! Just be careful you don't weaken the frame horns by making that notch as they are part of the frame horns structural integrity.bikesndbugs wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2017 1:00 pmA little notch in the frame horns to clear the CVSOl'fogasaurus wrote:Got a drawing of what you are planning? I notched my frame horns years ago with no problems.

Re: 68 baja build
It depends on how deep and where you put them in.
The flanges on the frame horns are structural; not there just for just spot welding. The seams should be welded anyway as spot welding isn't the best for other than stock use but I think (w/o knowing just where and how much you intend on taking off) you just need to be sure what you are doing.
Just a warning... for what it is worth.

I suspect he's going to triangulate/brace the poop out of everything...
He has a welder, and seems determined to make the most of it.

Re: 68 baja build
correct i was gonna notch it but then tie it into the cage at the tips of the frame horns. then plate it where i cut under and over plus weld the seams but that will be a while. also im being told you can extend a stock arm 2 inches on a stock axle. as stock the axles sit slightly forward so you do the same angle on the axle to the rear ends up about 2 inches. also with the extended arm i think it would pair nicely with those 10" coilovers i have.Piledriver wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2017 10:16 pm I suspect he's going to triangulate/brace the poop out of everything...

Now on to what I did today. got the bottom runners bent and in place still gotta clean up the torsion housing. we are going to go under the torsion then behind it with the b pillar then make a giant gusset over it so it is entirely surrounded as its hard to weld on it.
started playing with seat location.
the front end is straight as i spaced the bottom out 1/4 inch on one side.
Learned to bend tubes today alot easier than was expected. used a hydrolic bender with a leaky seal fluid everywhere but it works.
With the passing of my mother came some inheritance. new truck 70k miles full leather interior. heated seats power drivers seat. rear window rolls down and sunroof.

Re: 68 baja build
You can notch the flanges on the frame horns to fit a 002/091 with the nose inside the tunnel. Use 13ga to plate over the area where you've cut off the flange. Use a mid mount (you can get an external mid mount) on tabs welded to the yokes, and no nose mount. Use tabs welded to the lower inner sides of the yokes for the lower engine studs, and maybe an upper mount to the top of the bellhousing if you have one with the mounts. Of course, brace the ends of the yokes to the back of the cage. You MIGHT need to clearance the tops of the yokes for CV clearance, but not necessarily so.
