Making progress...

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

The pivot bushings were wore through to the point the steel sleeve was wearing a ridge in the pivot bolt. Spring plate bushings were stock rubber, and they were shot too. That allowed the spring plates to tweak.

Wow, what a good change there Skid. No more blaming the arms for your tilted tires!

Yeah, kinda shows off my ignorance... but as long as people on here learn something a little humility never hurt anyone!

Must have seen some hard use.

First drive outside the neighborhood tonight... It feels like a different car! The transition on and off the power is much smoother, and the handling is much improved. What a difference! I haven't even set the rear toe yet. I am liking this bit of maintenance!!

Wow... it's been a while since I posted on here! Starting to work on the car again, well, as much as I can anyway. Took off the roof rack to do the last few mods, then off to the powder coater. Need to have it finished my Memorial weekend in May for the Mojave Road run. I haven't had the car out in the dirt since June of last year. I am putting the aluminum roof panel back on for driving around town. There is a car show at a local Hooters restaurant this Sunday, going to take the car (without washing it) and show some of the "waxers" how to have fun with a VW... 8)

I'll take donations for fuel. Just figured that at 4.00 a gallon it would cost 1200.00 round trip. I'm sure gas will be at least that by or more by then.
Collecting parts again... No I'm not going to say why!

You should plan to carry enough "trail" fuel for 220 miles, if you plan on making it.

I had figured my battery to be dead after the car sitting for so long. It didn't crank the fastest I have ever heard it, but it managed to fire the motor! Got it out of the garage and around the blck a few times. It needs a serious cleaning, but I wouldn't want to damage the patina for the show tomorrow.... 8)

Here are a couple shots of what I was like at Thanksgiving last year, to now. Amazing what difference there is when you lose 50 lbs...
