Lotrat's Budget Baja Build

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

I'm gonna guess that tire might be vintage 6/98.

Guys, if your rubber gets old, replace it. You don't want an "accident" do you? An ounce of prevention...

You are not even in the ballpark with that guess. I'll give you another shot.

Whoever guesses the date code on the tire that blew wins a random sticker off my desk.
One guess per participant. Contest ends today. In the event that no one guesses the exact date code. The closest guess will be selected as the winner.

ELIGIBILITY: Contest is only open to individuals who are eighteen (18) years of age or older as of the date of submission, who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia (collectively "Territory"), and have not been convicted of a violent offense, felony, crime of moral turpitude, or misdemeanor, other than minor traffic ticket(s) or parking violation(s). Employees of Sponsor, its affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion and internet vendors and members of their households and immediate family members are not eligible to enter or win this Contest ("Promotion Parties").

Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.

The winner is....

226!

So if I ignore the previous owners guess... that makes winifredevw the winner. Shoot me a PM and your prize will be mailed out tomorrow.

Now before the safety committee send me an email, I know that I am a bad person for running these tires for as long as I did. For some reason I thought they were 2006's not 1996's. These tires crumbled like a dry eraser. No bueno and my bad. Anything over 6 years old should be looked at carefully for signs of aging, dry rot, cracking, bulging, or anything out of the ordinary. Anything over 10 years old should just be dumped in Herbie's new truck.

I'll have to check and see how old mine are when I get home, but I'm pretty sure they are older than that... I believe the brand is Armstrong.

So I stopped by my buddy's place to visit my old HF tire machine to pop the tires off the wheels. Then he had 3 tires to pop off too.

Then his neighbor had 2 to pop off.
and then his botherinlaw had 2 to pop off.
Nine tires when all was said and done. That machine paid for itself 10x over.

The Remington Wide Brutes were pretty cool.
