Jps1145's Little Baja - Build Thread

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

My guess is plasma cut, printed vinyl, and TexasBaja practicing his TIG skills? Am I close?

In any case, they are very cool looking, and at the end of the day it is what they represent that matters. I figure it is sitting on your mantle you know who earned it

You are correct on most parts but I can only take a very small portion of the credit. When I said "I worked my butt off" I should have said "We worked our butts off". Race Ritchie supplied all of the stainless steel and cut the Texas shapes with a plasma at his shop in Odessa and sent them to the TPM shop in San Antonio. Christy0 dropped everything she was doing and supplied the art work for the Vinyl guys. Danny Webb and Casey Clow tig welded the the faces to the bases and then we laid the vinyl on the faces. All done with volunteer time. Christy0 also supplied all of the art work for our Tech stickers which turned out bitch'n. I proofed the art work and didn't realize we didn't have the classes on the artwork..My bad.....
We continue to learn and grow at TDRA and love to hear compliments and complaints so we can fine tune the organization to be Bigger, Better, Stronger, and Faster.

For the record John has personally called me and apologized which he never should have. I was still exhausted from the race and just wrote the wrong words. I should have inserted a couple of lol's and LMAO's.

Carnage is fun to see. Sounds like you've been out having fun and testing limits.

Actually, wasn't going to be able to make it. A few too many commitments... now that it has moved to January 16th, i may be able to.

I added 3x5 arms, micro-stubs, and disc brakes to the rear. Managed to grenade the hub on the driver's side 9 miles into the last race at Texana. I'm pretty sure it was an installation error by your's truly. (maybe disassembly error, I guess a sledge isn't the tool to use to remove the hub... )
I recently added electric power steering and adjusted the rack position for less bump steer. It is so much easier to drive now, plus i can use a reasonable sized steering wheel instead of that hula-hoop i had.
here's a couple of the steering set up.
it is awesome to just flip a switch and have power steering...

They leak like crazy!
But, once I got close on the bypass adjustments, they work really well.

Great to have the site back up! I do a lot more lurking than I thought...

So, next week (April 1-2) is our "Twin 150's" out at Notrees. I'm about to load everything up and get ready to go.
Lot's up updates since the last event in January. I got about 150 miles in last race before one of my CV's grenaded and took out the splines of my axle. I've since mounted a spare half shaft inside my rear bumper in case it happens again.
I've changed to 3x5 arms with Micro-Stub rear brakes and changed to 33" tires on the rear. I've switched to 12" shocks on the front to allow for a little more droop and a bit more ride Height.
Pictures for your viewing pleasure...
