Who here also has a non-off-road ACVW?
The reason I ask is I'm right in the middle of a resto of my '78 convertible. I would much rather be spending the money and time on my buggy, but such is life. So, this thread is somewhat therapeutic. Anyway, I only have one ACVW anymore. Its a 1978 Champagne Edition II. I've stripped it down and it goes in for paint next Monday (Peach Red Metallic). Why am I doing this and neglecting my buggy? Well, I've had this Bug for 4.5 years and its time to get it done. Besides, its really rare and one recently sold at Barrett for a mere $30k. Of course, that one only had 38 miles on it, as opposed to mine which has approx 66k on it.
I seriously considered installing a set of 930 flanged stubs in it. Hey, its what I know.

Nothing of note right now. I do need to take some pics for posterity. However, this is what it will look like when done (not mine, but the same special edition and color). Its a one-year-only color and I've read reports that there were only 200 + change of these, but I can't verify this. But for mine, I've never actually seen one in person (only a few on the internet now and then). Reportedly, dealerships (US) were each only provided two Champagne Editions Beetles in '78. There were two colors of Champagne Editions in '78 (Anaconda Blue and Peach Red Metallic). I've seen many an Anaconda Blue. Anyway, this is how it will look when done.

Re: Who here also has a non-off-road ACVW?
I've got a 69 Ghia set up for AutoX and a 61 single cab work in progress. My 65 baja is in the build stage. 3 AC VW is almost too much. The Ghia and the truck both need little things and it is overwhelming to review the to do list.
I want to finish the Baja by spring but I also want to upgrade the Ghia for next years racing season. The truck needs brake work and some rust fixing on the frame and an exaust and some gages and some tie downs and new rims and tires. Aww crap, its a bit much....

She's a beauty and I dig the color. Is this the car that went for $30k?DeMinimis wrote: ....this is what it will look like when done (not mine, but the same special edition and color). Nope. The one that went for $30k is listed in a broken link to Jay Leno's garage. So, I'm guessing he sold it through Barrett, or perhaps he recently bought it. Anyway, here's the $30k specimen (note the dealer-installed wheels -yuck): http://www.remarkablecars.com/main/volk ... 00015.html
Actually, here is a direct link to Barrett and the $30k beauty: http://www.barrett-jackson.com/applicat ... =223&pop=1

Here is the 61 single cab. This truck does go off road very well.

I've got one, my '72 Beetle. I borrow dad's or brother's cars for my off-road needs. (Which isn't to say my car hasn't been off-road...)

I'm only about 3.5 hrs from Boise. However, with the exception on some small items, I've amassed every little item to completely renew the Bug. Would have been a good excuse for a roadtrip.
