Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

With my usual, "Not one to let fear and common sense stop me", attitude, I bought a TIG welder and have been watching Youtube videos to educate me. Then, I try welding, fail, and re-watch videos until I figure out what I did wrong. Repeating as needed.
After I managed to do this:

The next job is to move the fill bung to the center so you can face with either side up hill. If you want to be really cute then an outlet tube angled down to a dropped tube in the center so when you are side hilling with a half full tank you can still get fuel out of the tank.... think about it :twisted:

I am guilty of ALL the mistakes he lists and am trying to cure myself.
Watched his videos repeatedly ever since I got the welder. Also, there is "Chuck E" at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... 35249CF102 that has some good information as well.

Depending on the angles you ride at a sump doesn't always work... at least on a long transverse with the power on. 8) I have seen a lot of things tried but the tube type of thank has so many drawbacks which is why I still use one. :roll:

I run a device called a "swirlpot" already. A swirlpot is a small reservoir of fuel that feeds the EFI fuel pump. Mine holds 1 cup of fuel and has the EFI return line plumbed into it as well as it's own fuel pump filling it. It works well enough so that I don't add a reservoir on the bottom of my tank, but it's sort of unsightly. Most of my transverse driving is done at high speed, so they don't last long. :D

Hmmm, I thought a swirl pot was something for bladder control :? I had forgotten about the FI, on carbed engines it can be a problem. I don't do high speed face running as I have been thrown down the dune a couple of times whey you hit a negatie part of the face, kind of like the feeling you get when doing an outside loop (yeah, like I have ever done one of those... but reading about then you get feeling very light and the "Gs" are less than 1G). Riding in a bowl is more fun, especially when being ejected/slung out.
