Ultra Seal is the name of the sealant. Tubes will be fun fixing on the side of the trail.

Thanks. You are right about tubes. Pp Lu's the weight isn't a bonus. Maybe all I need is valve stems and ultra seal.

Re: Tim's Green Bug...
Before you dismount the tires off the rims and clean the rims where the tires seal, check the beads on the tires have the Schrader valves checked. Tire beads are very easily contaminated while off-road plus, if the tires are old then the beads themselves can start to get brittle and start to seep/leak.
With tubed tire check the Schrader valves, then dismount and check for debris in the tire that can cause pin--hole leaks in the tubes.
One thing for both is to either put the tire w/rim flat in a big bucket of water or on end and slowly rotating the tire and look for bubbles. You can also slowly put water on the bead area (hose) checking for air bubbles that way. The face of the tire can be done either way but is a more slower and more difficult process.
Corrected the "tubeless" in second para to "tubed" and cleaned up some miss-spelled words.
Sorry about stating the obvious but that is what is usually missed. It is something I learned in my first job back in the late 50s, it was stuff that even long time mechanics often missed. The Schrader valves are often forgotten about.

In the old days people often put anti-freeze in the tire to stop leaks (.http://forums2.gardenweb.com/discussion ... e-in-tires) I wonder if the new stuff would still work.

The biggest problem with tire sealant is that while it works great as long as the tire is spinning, once you stop for a bit it runs down to the bottom of the tire and unless the leak is at the bottom then it will leak again.

This stuff has small rubber bits that clog the hole, usually your tire is turning so it has time to do what it does. All I know it's the best stuff I have used. Just an option.dustymojave wrote: ↑Thu May 04, 2017 8:07 pm The biggest problem with tire sealant is that while it works great as long as the tire is spinning, once you stop for a bit it runs down to the bottom of the tire and unless the leak is at the bottom then it will leak again.

Camel made a tire sealant, not sure if they are still around. Slime is water based and can rust a steel wheel.

I haven't had to mess with my tires in a couple years, maybe need to see what it looks like on the inside, later.

I'm not real fond of Slime. Can't speak for other brands. Might be the same, might be totally different.

Slime is a green goo with fiberglass shreds in it, does just a ok job until the green goo starts to dry out then it will leak again. TIm, let me know if you want this mini thread on tire sealant moved out of here.dustymojave wrote: ↑Fri May 12, 2017 9:35 pm I'm not real fond of Slime. Can't speak for other brands. I don't know, with all my projects bumped to the main page, I have been getting project anxiety.
I have piles are parts collected for each project and they are making my mind do strange things... Like start imaginary projects. It's never ending.
I did get my land surveyed for a shop, though, so I can house all my projects.
