560 Gets a major remodel

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

I guess I'm the tech guy on this team, which is kind of scary. Here are all the recent pics of the work Richard's done. We're going to do some work on the radio/intercom this weekend to make sure everything is in working order.

What kind of roof rack is that? Is it as secure as it looks?

Edit: looks like a homemade rack on pre-made rails?

That is exactlty what it is. Yakima cross bars and gutter mounts. Bought used.3/4 inch square tube rack. 3/4 #9 flat expanded metal floor. 1/8 inch aluminum for wind deflector. Rack is 36 inches wide and 48 inches long. Im in the rack $28.00 which was the cost of the square tube. Had all the rest of the materials and paint. Shovel came with the car and is mounted with a couple quik fist mounts. Was going more for an expedition look than prerunner/desert racer look.
Front turn signals are baja designs motorcycle turn signals.

We tested all the circuits today, good to go! The radio sends and receives, intercom works, all lights are functional except the rear turn signals which Richard will mount this week. The only thing we wish we could change about it is that we can't hear each other while transmitting on the VHF, so if someone from this car calls you a "dirtbag", it was the other guy! Still have to mount a 12V cigarette lighter/power output, but we figure we can do that Thursday night at camp.

Oh, we also decided to install my tuned VHF antenna over the little stubby we had at the last race we raced in Wendover. Hopefully that will help things as well.

The million dollar question:
So what engine are you gonna go with?

I know on the GCA you mentioned a standalone ECU for the Ford, I checked Ford Racing's site and the only 4 cylinder setup they sell is for the 2.0 Ecoboost. The Ecoboost is a direct injected turbo motor with a whopping 252 HP and 270lb. ft of torque. A truly badazz 4 cylinder, but not quite what you are looking for I think.

Although, this sure is a SWEET deal https://fordracingpartsbydonwood.com/cr ... oChx_w_wcB  .

After much consideration Subaru. Specifically EJ22. Looking for one right now.
I believe the standalone for the ford duratech 2.0 is available as that is what Steve put in his 5 open, the guy Texas Baja is associated with.

Why not EJ25? Just because of the more complex ECU?

I think the EJ25 would not be a problem with the ECU says the challenged one

You can really see how out of shape the windscreen is in that picture. No wonder you couldn't go with glass.

Shame I am so far away as I would be interested in your engine. From what everyone has ever said it has plenty of grunt!
