Funco SS2 Barn find
So I got this real Funco this summer thru my friends on STFORF and want to document its teardown and reconstruction. The story was to good to pass up on the deal. It was a build started most likely around 1977 by a guy in Tacoma, WA that had planned to race it in Baja but never finished due to his untimely passing from a heart attack.
The car was passed around to his survivors until it was exchanged for moneys owed to the guy I got it from. He put parts together and got the engine installed and running putting it on Seatle C/L when our sharp eyed stfer spotted and posted in heads up. I couldn't resist so I called the owner and struck the deal. Only problem was its a 1200 mile road trip. We packed up the 'burban and empty trailer and hit the road and called it a vacation visiting relatives in the Pacific Northwest along the way. First order of business when we got home was to see if it would run. It appears to be a fresh 40 horse class 9 in the day. It did!
Added a pic that my #1 Uncle sent me while he was on his road trip.

I'm excited to see it happen. Looked like a clean car from the pictures I saw. What are your plans with it? Complete teardown? Are you going to race it or make it a recreational car?

(Another one came up but in Canada. Not sure about a good deal like the one you got http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/pml/m ... 65384.html)

That cockpit looks pretty narrow. I just measured my buggy at 28" ID near shoulders. I'm guessing yours is about the same. Mine is cramped, and my elbows don't like me sometimes, but it's functional. Did it come with a fuel cell? What kind of wheelbase does it have?

Weak point of the whole front end would have to be the vw tierod ends and then the stock, if I am correct,. trailing arms.

I was starting to wonder if this thing was getting tucked back into a barn for somebody else to put back together in the future
